End 2016 on a High Note
Sing4Fun ended 2016 on a high note (forgive the pun !)
In November the Eyres Monsell Baptist Free Church, where we rehearse on Wednesday evenings, celebrated their 49th anniversary and Sing4Fun was invited to join them for a celebratory concert. We included a variety of music from around the world. The audience gave very positive comments regarding both the program and our singing !
For December our annual Jingle Bells Concert was held at the Salvation Army Centre in South Wigston . As in past years we were once again joined by the Long Eaton Silver Prize band. The choir did a variety of music including some well known Christmas Carols but these were sung to alternative tunes and these were all very well received. The Band gave their usual first class performance with their own entertaining style. It was agreed that as always this concert was a resounding success.
The year finished with a carvery meal at the Fairfield Pub. This was once again a really fun evening even if the quiz was a bit of a brain teaser !
Best wishes to everyone involved with Sing4Fun for a successful year in 2017.
Memory Walk for Alzheimers
Sunday 2nd October
A few members of Sing4Fun took part in the Alzheimers Society Memory Walk "Walking for a world without dementia", held at the Abbey Park in Leicester.
Many thanks to all the choir members who sponsored us on that day. It was a fine day and we enjoyed the walk along with a crowd of thousands!
Sing4Fun Go Stateside Summer Concert
Featuring Special Guest Marcus Reynolds
Friday 8th July 2016
The Sing4Fun choir gave their annual summer concert at the Salvation Army Centre just off Saffron Road in South Wigston.
The evening was opened by Richard and led by musical director Katy Dent; accompanied by pianist Lydia Hind. The concert theme was music from America, including traditional folk and jazz, through to modern day music. After Sing4Fun opened the concert, the Guest Artist for the evening, Marcus Reynolds, entertained us with some music played on the trombone.
After a delightful and 'tasteful' interval with summer punch and lemon drizzle cake the second half opened with a beautiful arrangement from Katy and Lydia of 'Somewhere' from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, followed by a medley by the Choir from that musical including 'America' enjoyed by both the choir and the Audience !
The American theme continued with more music from Marcus Reynolds including jazz numbers made popular by Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald. He concluded with 'Maria' from West Side Story. The evening finished with more songs from the choir ending with a piece celebrating Glen Miller thus finishing the evening on a cheerful note sending everyone home with a smile on their face and a song in their heart !
